Editor’s note:  We liked Gypsy because it has the lilting feel of an ancient ballad, and we could imagine this poem set to music. ~ GVB

Gypsy

A sigh, a whisper,
The wind calls my name.
New home, new town,
New village, new plain.

I turn to the tarot,
My destiny on the cards.
I leave but a vision,
As I leave with the stars.

The wind marks my journey,
On a map non-existent
And I trust his judgement,
Never doubtful, never hesitant.

I collect my possessions
Of tarot and stone
And he carries me off
To a new land called “home.”

No lover, nor companion,
But the wind and the moon,
For I know they won’t leave me,
Nor bring me to ruin.

The present, the future,
The echoes of the past;
They all fade to dust,
For none ever last.

It is this that drives me,
To a life of temporary.
I must move, I must travel,
Before this burden gets too heavy.

A sigh, a whisper,
The wind calls my name.
New home, new town,
New village, new plain.
